Writer Profile for Robert Bley
Robert BleyMenlo Park, CA
I've liked making stuff all my life. In the early 1980's, I discovered my passion for woodworking. I got my first lathe so that I could make twisted, flaming finials and fluted columns for an antique reproduction clock I was building. I immediately got hooked on turning. I love learning new things, and the practically endless variety of ways people contribute and share in our worldwide turning community makes learning a real joy.
I have been heavily involved in my local chapter, The West Bay Woodturners, and have been running the professional demonstration program for several years now. I am also a member of Silicon Valley Woodturners.
I have been in Product Development in the Medical Device field for over thirty years. I merged my product development experience with my woodturning passion when I developed the Black Hole Dust Catcher, launched in 2015, in order to create a system that was well designed and way overdue for dust collection at the lathe.
